Non-Tourist Vienna Guide

So as I promised in my previous post, here are some pictures of my one-day Vienna trip. A little follow me around, but don't expect too much. Vienna is almost my second home, I come here every month at least once. So that's why we skip the usual sight seeing and cultural stuff, since we have already seen the majority of it. This time we decided to go shopping and spend some moneyyy! So I take you with me on our shopping routine in Vienna.

We usually start off with Peek & Cloppenburg, which is a huge clothing store with various brands, from Maison Scotch to Karl Lagerfeld. They have everything, evening gowns, designer bags and suits, underwear,... really everything.

Numerous shopping streets lead to this immense beauty, the St. Stephen's Cathedral. Around the St. Stephan's Square are many shops, hotels and restaurants. We went Zara, H&M and Cos...but it's very crowded, which makes the shopping quite stressful. So I wouldn't recommend going this time of the year.

Vienna is very famous for carriages all over the city as means of transport, it's very nostalgic and it feels like you traveled back in time. It's an adventure you need to try!

Behind the cathedral we discovered a new amazing café called Haas & Haas. We have never seen or paid attention to this place until now. We were looking for a store when we randomly spotted an extremely sunny courtyard. It felt like we were somehow magically drawn to this place, like Alice in Wonderland we followed our curiosity.

It was such a surprise to find a cafe in the heart of the city so calm and pleasant. They offer special things, such as unique flavored teas, dairy free ice cream etc. It's too much to list everything, you have to experience it for yourself.

We went for strawberry sorbet, a latte, mango cactus tea and a lemonade. Next to the cafe, they have a store where you can purchase the tea you had in the cafe. The mango cactus tea was so delicious we immediately had to get it. Since this trip I have been drinking it non stop. You need to try it!

To avoid the crowds we explored some smaller streets, which were stuffed with amazing antique and vintage stores. They are really worth taking a look at! You can find beautiful furniture, ancient statues and old gramophones and typewriters.

Then we came across Albertina, a huge museum displaying graphics collections and 20th century art. It houses one of the largest and most important print rooms in the world and also temporary exhibitions. But I have actually never visited this museum, so I can't tell you any personal experience about it. However I visited the Sissi Museum, which I warmly recommend. It's very interesting and fascinating learning about the Empress of Austria and spouse of Franz Joseph I of Austria and also private habits and traditions of her everyday life are relinquished.

Lastly, of course you can't leave Vienna without having tried or bought a Sacher cake as a souvenir! We always, wait let me say that again ALWAYS get a Sacher cake before we head back to Budapest. And then we have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next few days in a row.

Sorry this wasn't the tourist guide you have expecting, it was simply a causal culinary and shopping trip. I hope you still enjoyed, and maybe you find the time to visit Vienna and stop by the places I mentioned.
